For Employers: Things a candidate will ask

  • How much influence will my ideas have in the company?
  • Do they welcome suggestions in the system?
  • Will they keep me advised of my progress?
  • Why is the position available?
  • How is the terrirtory currently performing and what are your goals for the territory?
  • What are the company’s feelings about political activities and charity work?
  • What kind of support would I have for going back to school?
  • What kind of training program would I go through?
  • What methods do you use to evaluate your employees?
  • What is the normal salary range for someone with my background? (avoid if you already know)
  • What are my chances for advancement with your company?
  • Do you pay moving expenses if I am forced to relocate?
  • What is the average length of time between promotions?
  • Why should I come to work for you?
  • How long have my supervisors been with the company and what chance do they have of being promoted?
  • Other than money, what kinds of rewards can I expect from your company?
  • Describe your ideal employee for me.
  • What weaknesses do you see in my background? In my training?
  • How creative can I be on the job?
  • Who is your biggest competitor? Technically, you should already know this.
  • If you are asked if you have any questions. “Yes, as a matter of fact I do. While you were talking, I gathered that you are looking for … (Repeat back to the employer what he is looking for and ask what he/she feels is top priority.)
  • What do you need to have me accomplish in the first 90 days?
  • What caused you (Mr. or Mrs. Employer) to be excited about this company?
  • What are the company or department goals?
  • Are you expecting the new employee to be creative and come on board with ideas to solve problems?
  • How is success measured in your company? What is the track record of the best employee you have had with your company?
